FAQ

  1. What is this project?

The School is launching its first comprehensive application inventory evaluation across the entire Icahn School of Medicine and MSSM.EDU network.

We want to establish a database of applications and vendor services. Creating a process to ensure our inventory is continuously reviewed, updated and integrated into our existing MSHS clinical systems inventory will further support Cybersecurity and Disaster Recovery efforts.

  1. Why am I getting these emails?

You were identified as the chair of your department or you were designated by the chair to fill out the survey.

  1. I'm not the best person to fill out this survey. Can I forward this link to someone else in my department?

If there's someone else more fit to respond for your department, send us an email at appinventory@mssm.edu and we will send them a new link. Do not forward the link.

  1. We have a number of Python packages we update on a regular basis. Do you need all of these packages or subsequent modules listed?

We definitely would like you to identify software development tools such as Python in addition to any hardware these tools or end applications may reside on. With the identification of these tools, we can better prepare for follow up discussions with you and your colleagues.

  1. We have started to deploy software on Azure instances provisioned by Central IT. Do we need to document these?

Yes, we would request that you document the software or other applications implemented on Azure. Since this is provisioned by Central IT, please provide whatever details of the Azure instance / virtual machine you have available.

  1. We are doing clinical trials and have various devices involved in these processes. Should we document the devices?

Ideally we document the hardware and software these devices are connected to. For example, if you have a device connected to a PC that is collecting and processing data, we would like to know about the computational / analysis software running and the PC on which it is installed.

  1. I have specific questions about an application my lab is running. How can I tell it's in scope?

Review scope detail here. If you have additional question, attend our virtual office hours or send us an email at appinventory@mssm.edu

  1. My department is purely clinical. We do not do any research. Does this survey pertain to us?

If your applications are provided and supported by Central IT, no. Please let us know at appinventory@mssm.edu and we will update in our database that your department has 0 relevant applications.

  1. When does the survey close?

The survey will close on June 1, 2021.
